Sentence Abortion
When I was in high school one of my teachers introduced me to the idea of sentence impregnation. For example, if I say "the student was writing a sentence but they used incorrect grammar" I have impregnated that sentence. I start with one subject--the student--and magically I refer to she/he as "they" because I don't know or don't want to clarify his/her gender. Plus, it's faster than typing/thinking he/she. So, clever concept and it makes sense... but all these years later (a whole four, more or less) I'm still wondering what you would call the opposite phenomenon. Last night, to my rescue, comes someone else who also had the same teacher, though we didn't know each other at the time, and he informs me that he refers to it as sentence abortion.
I suppose that now my life is just a little bit more complete.
